Colleague
We have great pleasure in
inviting you to the 72nd Session of the Indian History Congress
being held at our Campus on 10-13 December 2011. This Session will be a special
occasion for us as it will be part of the PLATINUM JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS of the
Indian History Congress.
There will be a Conference on the COMPOSITE
CULTURE OF INDIA, dedicated to the PLATINUM JUBILEE of the Indian History
Congress, with Sessions on 11, 12 and 13 December. Other programmes of Platinum
Jubilee Celebrations will be notified in the Secretary’s second circular, which
you will receive in October.

is generally between 10oc and 15oc; it might go down to 5oc.
Delegates are advised to bring with them a blanket and thick woollen clothing.

Registration Counter will function from the afternoon of 9 December till
mid-day on 11 December. After Registration the Delegates will be taken to their
places of stay.
Hostel
and guest-house accommodation is being arranged for Delegates. Bed rolls and a
quilt will be provided. Owing to limited accommodation available you are
requested NOT to bring any FAMILY MEMBER with you.

addition to the Membership fee, there will be a Delegate fee of Rs 600/- which
should be remitted by Demand Draft in favour of ‘Indian History Congress,
Patiala’, payable at Patiala, and

Delegate fee (by D.D.) to the LOCAL TREASURER.
The
Delegates wishing to participate in the special programmes for PLATINUM JUBLIEE
CELEBRATIONS should send Rs. 700/- instead of Rs. 600/-. A Member who has
already paid Rs 600 as Delegate fee can pay the additional amount of Rs.100.

in the Session of the Indian History Congress is open only to Members. For the
Rules of Membership and the prescribed form and other requirements, you are

Annual
Members intending to attend the Congress are requested to pay the annual
renewal fee of the Indian History Congress (which is Rs 150/-) while new
Members should pay initial membership fee of Rs 160/- by Demand Draft drawn in
favour of ‘Indian History Congress’ payable at Kolkata, and send it along with
the prescribed form and enclosures to the Secretary at the address given above.
In case the sum is remitted by money order, it should be sent to the Treasurer,

Members
planning to present papers should either e-mail their papers and summary of 300
words to indianhistorycongress@gmail.com
with copy to ahs@ndf.vsnl.net.in or send two hard copies of their papers and
summary (if possible with CD) by registered/speed post to Professor Arun
Bandopadhyay, Secretary, Indian History Congress, Department of History,
University of Calcutta, Alipore Campus, 1 Reformatroy Street, Kolkata-700 027.
For details of the requisite length and style please refer to the first
circular of the Secretary.
Please
do mention your Membership Number, and inform the Local Secretary in ADVANCE if
you require VISUAL AIDS like OHP/Slide projector/LCD for your presentation.
Prizes for Best
Papers
There are eight prizes
for the best papers submitted at the Indian History Congress Session in a particular section or field by Members who
are not above the age of 45 years on the last date for the receipt of papers
submitted for the prize (5 November 2011). Please note, however that there is
no age-bar for Prize no.8 below.
1. Professor Vijay Kumar Thakur Memorial Prize
of Rs. 4,000 for the best paper submitted for Section I (Ancient India).
2. Professor J.S. Grewal Prize of
Rs.4,000 for the best paper submitted for Section II (Medieval India).
3&4.
Professor
Partha Sarathi Gupta Memorial Prize of Rs. 4,000 and Professor
J. C. Jha Prize of Rs. 4,000 for the best two papers submitted for
Sections III (Modern India), IV (Countries other than
5. Professor B. B. Chaudhuri Prize
of Rs. 4,000 for the best paper submitted on Economic and Social History of
India (Ancient, Medieval and Modern).

Professor Sudhir Ranjan Das Memorial Prize
of Rs.4,000 for the best paper submitted for Section V (Archaeology).
7. Professor
Papiya Ghosh Memorial Prize of
Rs 10,000/ for the best paper submitted for section VI (Contemporary India).
8. Dr I.G. Khan Memorial Prize of
Rs.5000 for the best paper submitted on History of Science and Technology (No
age-bar).
9. Professor
M. Athar Ali Memorial Prize of Rs.5000 will be awarded for the best
paper submitted at the 72nd session (No
age-bar and no application need be
made).
NOTE: A Member who wishes her/his
paper to be considered for any of the prizes (at nos. 1-8) above is requested
simply to indicate on it the award/(s) for which s/he wishes it to be considered
and (in case of every prize except No.8) attach a photocopy of some document
bearing the date of birth (e.g. photocopy of relevant page of passport, high
school certificate, or letter of Principal of College or Chairman of
Department).
The announcement of the papers selected for these prizes will be made
at the 73rd session.
